Hello, hello. Thanks for listening to guidance counselor 2.0. Listen, I want to give you a quick rundown of what this podcast is and what you're about to get into as you listen to these episodes. We had guidance counselors in middle school. We had guidance counselors in high school, but we didn't really have guidance counselors in college and now as professionals. We don't really have anybody to turn to to ask a quick question to learn something about the job search or to navigate your career. And so that is what I want this podcast to be for you. I want it for it to be a tool for you to navigate the job search and your career.

So that being said, I hope you enjoy this episode. And if you need to reach me, Taylor at vacovac.com is how to get and touch me old fashioned email social media at tdsintdesse. And then finally, please rate and review this in the app store because I want this to be discoverable for others so they can navigate their careers. I hope you enjoy the episode. I'm all right. So talk about the job search mentality. And so I want to I want to go over this and this is kind of an encouragement to you all. But I also want to say like you got to be willing.

Right. You got to be willing because I will tell you this, the individuals who I have dealt with who are willing to take my coding eval who are willing to send me references who are willing to meet with me on zoom who are willing to jump through hoops for some of our clients that maybe six rounds. Again, we talk about that. That's a whole nother conversation. But the individuals that can it to are willing to jump through the hoops to jump through the hoops in the job search or the ones that come out on top. Also the ones that are just kind, I could the end of the day, the ones who are just kind go a long way.

And so I want to say I want to be here and I want to encourage you today to just be like, hey, listen, like, like, be kind. of being enthusiastic. I'll tell you this, like, I have been able to find some amazing interns to help me with content creation. Right. And I want to tell you this, the consistent theme through all the individuals who want to help me through content creation and who have D, D, D, D, D, first off, they are fearless. They DMing and go, hey, I would love to help. How can I help? Like all that. Like first off, they're fearless. They slide into the DMs.

Right. And then also too, like they're willing to do whatever. Right. I'm like, hey, listen, like, I need this. Like, okay, great. That sounds good. Right. There's such a willingness and take it out of internships. Take it out from just what I do. Let's talk about the actual job search. Right. Again, I've talked about this. Companies are not getting their first choices right now. Right. And so if you go through the interview process, there was a candidate recently, a little quick story time. There's a candidate recently. We were together on all of our morning hands on meeting that we do every morning. And one of our, one of our count managers, like, how to Canada interview.

And that candidate was super negative during the interview process, like super negative based on their clients, based on their previous employer time. First off, don't do that at all. You still have to keep it positive. But also to this individual, when the account manager called the individual to give that individual feedback, the individual then proceeded to go, I don't know what you're talking about and proceeded to berate the account manager. Right. Again, empathy, kindness. Right. Hey, listen, I tweeted about this the other day about rejection. And a lot of people doing rejection, a lot of people came forward with their stories and dealing with rejection.

It happens, right? We had a live show, I think, Monday about rejection. It's going to happen. But it's how you deal with that rejection and how you deal with that moving forward is going to define your job search. And really your career, because I will tell you this, there are people who are better. I have dealt with people who are better. There are people who hate recruiters, who hate hiring managers, everyone's out to get them. It's everyone else's fault and not theirs. And those individuals can never progress in their career. There's a direct correlation in my experience to the people who are willing in kind of the people who are negative and where they go in their careers.

The people who are always grateful, always kind, always sympathetic, always want to do the above and beyond are the ones that excelled in their career. Right. I will tell you this, one of the core foundations of myself throughout my career is gratefulness. I am beyond grateful to be here. I am beyond grateful to be at Vaco. I am beyond grateful for the people who took a chance on me. We're going back to Daggum, Lauren, two Manello, my first boss who's at Vaco still. She took a chance on me as a kid out of college. Then he had Sid, Mitch, and Taylor Roberts and Raleigh take a chance on some kid that was at Vaco for two years, who was kind of loud and they took me on a Raleigh.

Then Scott Gordon, Alex, and Adele, and Nashville for taking me back to giving me a chance to take over Scott's book of business, who's been in the Daggum game for longer than I've been alive. Then Alex, and then now, right, my role is shifted. There's people like Kyle Allen and still Alex, and then JT Turban, Cincinnati, they're people in my life and there are people in my career who have been incredibly kind to me and who have gone out on a limb for me. I have been forever grateful and I've talked with. The guy who's up here for music with, who is a singer-songwriter. He and I were on his rooftop at Warthen Loughs a year or two ago, and he and I were just hanging out.

He had just, his career was really taken off. He got on Nashville, the TV show, and one of the main actors for the last season. He had his songs got picked up like a ton recently on different TV shows. He and I were just hanging out and that was kind of what my career was taking off to. I were just like, what's the common denominator? He's in music. I'm in eight to five land, recruiter world, and both of our careers are taken off. He and I were just hanging out and I was like, hey, hey, Jake, name Jake Etheridge. I said, Jake, what's the consistent theme in Jake's like, man, I'm grateful.

I'm just grateful. I said, I said, me too. I said, I'm grateful as well. I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity I was given and I've been given. Jake goes, I'm just grateful to be here. I'm grateful to be out of South Carolina, our hometown. I'm grateful to be in music city. I'm grateful to be riding with some of the best artists. If you hang out with successful people, there usually is a comment that a thread of gratefulness. That's why I want to preach today in the job search. If you get rejected, that's okay. You know what? That's a new connection. You should be grateful for a new hiring manager connection that may reach out to you in five years from now with your dream job.

It's flipping that mentality. I tweet this a lot from a mentality perspective. It's when you start the job search, it's just not, oh man, here we go again. I got to do the job search. I got a message random people, gosh, this is so tiring and listening to it is you're about in your emotions. I'm not saying it's not tiring, but I will tell you this though. When you flip the mentality to that to, hey, I can't wait to be a new person today. Hey, I can't wait to learn about something at a company. I can't wait to learn a new technical skill that I didn't know before because of a live coding assessment.

When you flip your mentality from negative to positive, that is the unlock for interviewing, that is the unlock for finding your dream job and that is what is going to sell you in your career. So I just went on a rant. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please at me comment. Andrew does this, go as hard as possibly can on being yourself. It's something that you can do better than anyone else and someone out there is looking for you. Andrew, I cannot agree more with you. Listen, when I came into Vaco, I was in the office. I was in the Vaco. I was loud.

I didn't wear a floor shirts at the time. I didn't really have a vibe yet, but I was loud, but I was still myself. I was still the same funny goofy kid then as I am now. I just have a little bit more maturity. But at the end of the day, I was still myself. And listen, some people didn't like me at Vaco. A lot of those people who didn't like me at Vaco to start now do like me or at least they tell me that like me. But the thing is, though, is you need to be unapologetically yourself. If a company does not want you in the interview process because you are not yourself, why would you go there?

It's just like any relationships. If Andrew and you and I have been texting, like Andrew's been a huge supporter of me and my show and helping me with audio issues and stuff, like Andrew has his quirks. Just like I have my quirks, right? But I accept Andrew for what he is. If I didn't accept Andrew for what he is, Andrew like, hey, go go go go go go go. Do something else away from me, right? So it's incredibly important to be yourself. And again, Andrew, thank you for everything that you've done for me. Garrett, good morning, Oscar, good morning. Yes, Oscar kindness is king, but yeah, 100%.

That's it. I mean, really at the end of the day, like you could suck at what you do. But if you legitimately are just kind to the job seekers or kind to the interviewers, right? So I'll say this, I'll say this, interviewers, interviewers don't know what the heck they're doing either. Right? And so if you can be kind of them, it lowers. It just lowers how everybody vibes. Listen, everyone's so tight in the interview process. Everybody's like, right, like everyone's so tight in the interview process. And kindness can break down walls. Kindness can lower the barriers on all this. And so again, I will just tell you this.

Kindness is king, just like Oscar said. Again, y'all comment, questions, comments, mentality, and words of encouragement for others. Throw it up at me, comment me. Let's again, use this platform as an encouragement to others. So if you have any thoughts, comments, suggestions, throw them up. A Chris goes, even when an interview did not go well, I made sure to send a follow up. Thank you email to as many people who were on the interview that I was able to find email such like Densport gratitude goes a long way. That is it. Listen, listen, Chris and I were able to catch up for a few minutes a month or two ago.

Chris is a, I knew Chris will be successful in his career, right? Because Chris, there was a sense of gratitude. There was a sense of kindness. And so Chris, I love this so much. Brandon, what's going on man? Good morning. I love it. Awesome. Yeah, Danny's great. I've been searching for a job for two years. You will absolutely burn out if you don't stay positive. Yes, again, also Matt, keep crushing it, man. Again, I know things are going to change for you soon. But I will tell you this. Listen, two years is a long time. You are absolutely valid to be down on certain days, right?

I'm not sitting here and saying you don't need to be down. You always need to be positive colleagues at the end of the day that, no, that's not how the human emotions work. But I will tell you this, Matt, and Matt gets it here. If you do not stay positive, if you do not stay positive, you will burn yourself out faster than anything else. And Marco, Marco, good morning. Good morning, sir. So listen, that's all I have for you today. Today is a very, very short one. I definitely don't want to belabor this point. I just want to tell you, tell you all to be very, very positive.

I have a mentality of trying to meet new people, to network, to be able to just be grateful for the opportunity to meet a new person, right? I'm grateful right now in this moment that I have you all watching today. And so again, for me, I want to share this note to you all to be kind, to be gracious, to give gratitude to the point, empathy, and the job search, to deploy all that to hiring managers. I want to say that it will change for sure. Yes, absolutely. The gratefulness mentality that is all about. Please do, I have a phone interview and a few for sales and marketing, really.

I can stand out. What should I emphasize, listen, please, just like I said, ask questions, be intentional, be enthusiastic, research the company, the companies want people to want to work there, right? So be enthusiastic. You don't have to have all the answers. All you have to do is be empathetic and be excited to be there and be grateful, and your energy will attract people to you during the interview process. In case you go from that, you're absolutely right. Stay positive. You can see it's not for not absolutely. Phil, thanks for tuning in, thank God. I appreciate you, it's kind of hope you're doing well. Again, thank you all for tuning in.
