Hello, hello. Thanks for listening to guidance counselor 2.0. Listen, I want to give you a quick rundown of what this podcast is and what you're about to get into as you listen to these episodes. We had guidance counselors in middle school. We had guidance counselors in high school, but we didn't really have guidance counselors in college and now as professionals. We don't really have anybody to turn to to ask a quick question to learn something about the job search or to navigate your career. And so that is what I want this podcast to be for you. I want it to be a tool for you to navigate the job search and your career.

So that being said, I hope you enjoy this episode. And if you need to reach me, Taylor at vacovac.com is how to get and touch me old fashioned email social media at tdsintdessey. And finally, please rate and review this in the app store because I want this to be discoverable for others so they can navigate their careers. Hope you enjoy the episode. So let's go and dive in and listen. These things aren't going to be super long when it's just me. I might just want to hang out with you all for a few minutes and then get you all back in your way on this Monday morning.

So I'm starting to see a lot of people jumping jobs after nine months and listen, I'm fine. When it when it boils down to I'm fine with you jumping jobs quickly, right? So there's a lot of things that come into play. You take a job, the higher manage your lives to you, you know, or not the higher manage or the recruiter maybe live, the higher manage maybe live, the company maybe allowed to you. They said you're going to work on X. You came in your working on Y. It's not a fits you jump. I understand that. However, there's a lot of people out there that are looking over their shoulders a lot with what their colleagues are doing and it's affecting them.

And they're always wanting to go to the next best thing. Listen, guys, gals sometimes the grass is not always greener, right? And so I tweeted this this morning and it really resonated with me. So I always talk about things you should keep in mind when you jump to a new job. financially, right? So let's let's hit those again. Do you know what your base salary is? Right? It's incredibly important. Yes, some people realize some people realize they don't know their base salary to a certain point. It happens, right? Check that. Know that. Bonus, right? What's your bonus look like? Do you get a 401k match?

What does that look like? Do you have a contributing HSA? What does that look like? Do you what's your PTO policy? Do you have any other perks? Daycare health benefits like, you know, stipends for, um, you know, workout, stuff like that. I know some companies do some health stipends. No, so I talk about that all the time. Know your worth from that perspective because before you jump, you need to know all that because a lot of time and the biggest thing is benefit monthly costs, right? Benefit monthly costs is huge. Somebody all think you have terrible benefits until you look on the job search. And you have really good benefits, right?

Which then affects your base and the rest of the trickle down. You see what I'm saying? So that's really important. I want to interrupt real quick. Evan, uh, congratulations, man. Just gave two weeks notice starting in my first true software engineer and role as a senior software engineer, networking works works. Oh, well, thank you so much. Evan, congratulations. Everybody dappin up for Evan. Um, and, uh, Evan, I appreciate you tuning in and congratulations, man. Seriously. Congratulations again. We don't celebrate enough. So y'all sent some love. Evan's way. Connect with him. Shoot him at DM. Tumping grads. Um, so, so the, so the next thing I want to talk about is actually, I'm going to pull up my post real quick.

Hold on. I'm going to go off screen. So, uh, let's see here. So, so my post this morning, I'm going to find it real fast because I want to read it to y'all because I thought it was really good. Um, so my post this morning was, uh, let's see here. Aside from knowing your worth, right? Like we're talking about aside from knowing your worth. You really need to ask yourself, are the issues you are dealing with currently? Something that can be changed going to a new place or can it be fixed by just a call a meeting with leadership? And, and again, I'm gonna repeat that one more time.

Aside from, aside from the monetary based bonus PTO, et cetera, aside from the monetary, you really need to ask yourself, are the issues you are dealing with currently? Something that can be fixed or changed going to a new place or can it be fixed by just a call with leadership? And, and the reason, the reason why I'm getting bullish on this is because I think there's a lot of people out there and a lot of people have approached me with, with a lot of complaints, right? Uh, companies are, I would say I'm seeing a little bit of dishevelment within organizations across the country. Um, right now, there's a lot of unorganization around work from home for the rest of time.

Um, there's a lot of people that made, there's a lot of companies that made a lot of money in COVID and they're trying to penny pinch to keep those margins and they're roughly in some feathers and not allowing some costs or spend. So I've had a lot of people reach out to me and talk like I want to leave. I'm like, why do you want to leave? And it's like, blah, blah, blah. And my question to you is, is you need to sit back and ask yourself, if I'm going to make this jump, am I going to deal with the same problem at the next company?

Cause again, a lot of things that we all deal with, right? As a recruiter, as a software engineer, no matter what industry are industry specifically bring difficulties, right? Recruiter, the recruiting staffing industry, they bring a level of difficulty and problem in and of itself, right? That that software like software engineers are watching this ideal with a lot of things that you don't have to deal with because it's the recruiting industry. Just like I don't have to deal with a lot of what you're dealing with in the software industry. So my question and my advice to you is listen, the grass is not always greener. And you need to think, is this a industry problem?

Or is it something that is specifically just for my company? And is it something that can be addressed with my manager? I feel like a lot of people these days we want the easy out. And I get it. It's so much easier going, you know what, Mr. Manager screw you because you treated me this way or talk to me this way. I'm going to go find another job. It's so much easier. Listen, I understand. I for those of you who know the indie gram, I bring the indie gram up a lot. I'm a three on the indie gram. But in unhealth, right, when I'm stressed, when I am not the best version of myself, I go to a nine.

What is a nine? Not as a peacemaker. What does that mean? I don't like confrontation. That is one of my biggest weaknesses in business is confrontation. I can't stand confrontation. So my response a lot of times is not fight, but flight. Right. I've just like, you know what, let's just move on. Let's not deal with it. And that's very unhealthy. And I think the, I think the economy and the job market right now is, and is allowing individuals to not confront the issues. Because it's so much easier taken to call from a recruiter, go into another company that actually is sitting down with your leadership, your management team, and be like, hey, listen, like, I'm unhappy.

This is really what I need because you know what? It's a hard conversation. It's a terribly hard conversation. I've had a lot of those conversations in my career. Right. My career hasn't been perfect. I've had to fight for things. I've wanted things that I've had to sit down and get. And it's hard. So I understand that. But the thing is, though, there's so many of y'all are jumping ship, especially in the last year. And I'm getting a lot of people come back to me with like nine months on their resume for their last job. Right. And so, listen, that's all I got. I don't want to be a dead horse here.

It's very simple straight to the point. I would just, I would ask yourselves today if you are looking for a new job, you really need to check yourself. And if it is something systemic within an organization that cannot be changed, listen, then leave. Right. If there is poor leadership from top down, if your company is going all on site and you want to stay remote, if there are glaring issues that cannot be changed by having a call or a few meetings with leadership, listen, I'm fine. Go jump ship. I understand. Things change. Things happen. But I would tell you this. You really, really need to, you really, really need to focus on having those conversations.

So that's all I got today. Super short to the point. I've just been very, very bullish on having these conversations and being more thoughtful around the job search and always jumping ship. So that's all I got. I appreciate y'all hanging out with me today. Very, very simple. Straight to the point. Again, if you I want to direct you back to render a TL, go check them out. Again, I'll be there. It's going to be an absolute blast. I will also tell you this. Go connect with everybody on the show. Right. One of the reasons why yes, dominant comes in and never hurts to talk to management and voice your concerns.

Yes, listen, if you come at it from a, hey, I'm feeling this way. Right. And don't attack. Right. Don't attack. Right. But say, hey, I come at it from I feel a certain way. I feel this way. I would like things that I would like things to get better. Right. Bring some suggestions to the table. Right. I think that's incredible importance. So Dominic, I totally, I totally agree with you there. But again, go connect with everybody on the show. Go connect. This is again, this is a, this is a networking platform. Go connect with everybody on the show. Send them a DM. Go be fearless.

Have conversations. Have intentional conversations today. If you're having issues with your managers, I am encouraging you today to reach out to them today. Schedule a one on one. And sit down and meet with them and, and try to get things fixed because nothing's going to get fixed unless you have those meetings. And a lot of us, let's just face it. We like the bitch a lot and not change anything. I'm guilty that as well. So y'all have a great Monday. I'll see you out tomorrow Tuesday. My guest tomorrow is Ashley. Ashley Huntsberger. She was a recent guest. We were having a follow-up conversation. We talked about building remote culture.

It's fantastic. So you won't want to miss tomorrow. 930 AM Central Ashley Huntsberger. She's from Raleigh. It's going to be a blast. You all have a great one. I'll see you out tomorrow. Peace. Hey, you did it. You listened to an entire episode and I am very grateful. Cause you know why there's a lot of podcasts out there. There's a lot of episodes and I myself rarely finished an entire episode. So I appreciate you so, so much for listening. Quick reminder. Please rate and review this podcast in the app store. I want this to be discoverable to others. The only way that happens is if you take the time right now and rate and review it.

Please like right now. Unless you're driving, then don't do it. So thank you again. If you need to reach out to me, tailor at vaco.com or at t-dasting on all social media handles and I hope you have a fantastic day.
