Hello, hello. Thanks for listening to guidance counselor 2.0. Listen, I want to give you a quick rundown of what this podcast is and what you're about to get into as you listen to these episodes. We had guidance counselors in middle school. We had guidance counselors in high school, but we didn't really have guidance counselors in college and now as professionals. We don't really have anybody to turn to to ask a quick question to learn something about the job search or to navigate your career. And so that is what I want this podcast to be for you. I want it to be a tool for you to navigate the job search and your career.

So that being said, I hope you enjoy this episode and if you need to reach me, Taylor at vacovac.com is how to get and touch me old fashioned email social media at tdsintdes. E-Y-N and finally, please rate and review this in the app store because I want this to be discoverable for others so they can navigate their careers. Hope you enjoy the episode. What's about building community? Because building community is a lot easier than you think. And so I want to take a moment because I feel like a lot of people, my brain and R.A. wins, Nashville's, Freite, meet up happening. We need to make it happen.

Maybe when COVID dies down a little bit. There we go. Garrett already registered. So again, for those of you watching, check out Alicia's problem solving course. So building community, I know a lot of people struggle with this. People want to have a network and struggle to develop a network. I will tell you this, nothing is going to get done unless you do it. So I want to first say that. There's no magic, there's no magic key or anything like there silver bullet. You have to do the work, but I want to ask all this, if you have passion, so I want you to take a minute, write down some passions that you may have.

So for me, it's hockey, it's corgis, love corgis, best dog ever, don't ask me. Working out, CrossFit, I don't do CrossFit right now, but CrossFit, the CrossFit communities amazing. So let's talk about CrossFit community for a second. Why did, why was CrossFit so successful? It still is successful, but why was it so successful? Because CrossFit made a place where anybody with any age, any skill could come together, what it out with other individuals and have no judgment. And they develop that community, right? And so I think everybody who's watching the show has the potential to develop that type of community. But the thing is, is you need to develop, you need to ask yourself, what are your passions?

What are your passions? For me, I think it needs to come down to executing on your passions, right? So right here, right, Brandon, Brandon says, go predators, Brandon, so I'm going to use you for example, because you posted it, right? Brandon, go predators, what I would do if I were you is I would develop a tech predators group, right? So what you do, and you're probably, well Taylor, where did I do this? So meet up dot com, meetup.com, you can do it. You can do it obviously through Facebook. Heck, you can do it through LinkedIn, right? You can develop a LinkedIn group. But what I would do, Brandon, if I were you is I would develop a place where people in tech can meet up or not even tech, just to anybody can talk about predator stuff.

I would actually love a predators group because I believe or not, I play ice hockey, I do shout out my team or 15 and one are only losses to championship, still better about it. But for me, like find your passion and then start building a community, start inviting people, hey, like I have a group that gets together once a month and we just watch a predators game and talk about the predators. I would love to be a part of that. I don't know anyone that's doing it, right? So an, an, an elisha says right here, passion, people, problems, board games and waste coats. It's so weird.

But for me, like so for example, here's another example. So if you are so, so host way dancing, right? Great conversation in my wife. So dancing, right? Dancing, develop, develop a dancing meetup, right? Y'all just get together and hang out and dance. I don't know. I'm a terrible dancer. I would not be part of that meetup, but there were a lot of people who are. And so for me, it's, it's taking those passions. It's iterating on them in a sense of building out a framework where people can come together in a central meeting place, right? Is a Slack group? Is it a discord group, right?

Is it a Facebook meetup group? Is it a LinkedIn group, right? That's what you have to, or is it meetup.com group. But the thing is though, you have to start there and then you have to be consistent, right? Once a month, once a week, every other month, I wouldn't probably go more than every other month. I probably do once a month. I think building community and building network is the unlock. Because here's what will happen is you will start meeting other people within your field and networking with them without it being networking. Right? That's what I'm trying to break down. Networking is just like really, really, really like crazy, like gross word that like no one likes.

Like it's awkward, right? Like I'm going to two conferences in September, fingers crossed as long as COVID doesn't get canceled, right? Like it's, it's still awkward for me. Like you know what I'm saying? Like it's just, it is a hard thing to do. And so for me, it's like why don't you start networking based off your passions? Right? Shauna. Shauna's passions are family, knitting and tea, right? Listen, get a knitting group, get a tea group. Shauna, my sister-in-law loves tea, loves it. Like all of it. I think there's so many types of tea, right? I'm going to develop a community around tea. We all get together and taste teas.

If anyone's got a wine club, I'd love to be a part of a wine club. I love to be a part of a coffee club. Someone go execute on that. I'll be a part of it. Right? But that's what I'm saying. Like it's so easy, right? People are like, all right, well, do I need a podcast to network, right? Job search, right? Do I need a podcast to network? No, you don't need a podcast to network. It's really easy to network with a podcast. So I was just on one this morning with a developer. I have no idea who he is. He just invited me on this morning.

Right? You can do. So there's two other ways to slide in other people's DMs is developing a meetup, a group where you can share this. If Shauna, right, Shauna slides into a manager's DMs, right? Hey, hey, Mr. Manager, like I would love to work with this opera. I would love to work with this company. We love to take, again, three ways to DMs somebody. I would love to take seven minutes of your time to talk about your time working with this company. And as you're talking to this person, hey, listen, like I actually have a meetup that I don't know if you like T. Do you like T?

Yeah, I like T Shauna. Well, I have a meetup if you'd love to be a part of it. It's virtual. We actually all, we all bring one T and we drink and we just hang out and talk about tech in life. Sure, Shauna, that sounds great. That sounds great. Let's do it. Boom, there we go. You developed a comp, you've developed a relationship out of a conversation with a random stranger because of similar things that you like. It's that easy. It is that easy. At least a dance like no one is watching except your nest camera. I love it. Sing like no, okay. All right, at least I get it.

Jeez, I've started a group about the struggles of parents learning to code. I love that. I love that. I love that. Matt, I love this. This is fantastic. If anybody wants to be a part of that, message Matt. I love that so much. Performing, stand up comedy, language learning, writing, art gaming. I love this. Right? Stand up comedy. There's so many things you can do, right? Language learning. What type of language, right? Be like, hey, like I have a French meetup where we just try to learn French together. Honestly, probably would be interested. I would be interested in that as well. Right? Like that's what I'm saying.

People need other people to lead and manage a group. And if you build it, they will come. They will come. How can we set up set ourselves up like you, this set up rocks? How can we set ourselves up? What do you mean, which set up? Which set up? Hoseaway, can you be more specific? Like this mic stuff or like just everything I do. Let me know. I bet Brandon can answer that. So Brandon goes, got Streamyard. Let's fix this, please. Brandon R. Vegas, I host LinkedIn local here in Kentucky, which acts as a great top of the funnel for creating relationship potential clients for my marketing firm.

Simple is finding a place restaurant, events, etc. Ask what is there of the slowest night. Tell them you'll bring X number of people. Ask if they host you during their slow time. You get a venue, an event, and the place gets customers. Actually, Brandon, this is a great idea. This is why we work great together. I think this is fantastic. Hoseaway, I'll learn him out so you can podcast from his house. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, Hoseaway, were you meeting like my mic set up? Because I can Andrew Miller, shout out Andrew Miller. He's the one that helped me up with the mic set up. Meet up some Tampa are having trouble finding one in Tampa, but there was a reality.

Act one. Hey, Marco, you know what? If I were you because you're junior in your career, I would start to meet up. I would start to meet up. Absolutely. Absolutely. And it doesn't have to be react. It could just be like, bro, if you like pizza, if you like pizza and you had a pizza meet up, bro, I would come to that. I would, if I was ever in Tampa, I would hit you up and we'll go eat pizza together. Somebody do a pizza meet up in National Invite, please. Everything the screen. All right, real quick rundown. I get a I have a Logitech 4K camera, video camera.

I really need to hook up the DSLR with more video content, but that's I'll name my wife's help with that. I have a ring light. This is a road pod mic. Get the it's on Amazon. You can get the starter packets like 300 bucks. The mic, the boom stands. Everything. Just do that. Get that. And that's it. I mean, it's literally it. And then I use Streamy Yard for all my streaming stuff. We need a virtual wallpaper, Taylor's background. It's really peaceful, isn't it? I need like candles too. It's kind of like also I need to get what would that be awesome? Okay, here's something.

Any home goods places that ever walks this ever, be my sponsor and you could come in and set up all ooh, here we go. You can set up all of your like design stuff and it can be like, this room is brought to you by. Create and barrel, which actually most of it is cool. All right, y'all. So that's it today. I listen, I just want to leave you with this. I want to leave you with this today. Build community, build community. It doesn't have to be complicated. It can be eating pizza. It can talk about predators games. It can talk about business trends. It can talk about whatever.

But at the end of the day, people are looking to get involved. Tae J. Max. That's fantastic. How about the screen that has labels? Yeah, so that is, that was my designer that did that. But you can do it in Streamyard yourself. And you can, I think you can do it in Canva too. Here's the deal. Build community. That's it. If you are having problems, finding a job, build community. If you are having problems making new friends, build community, build community around your passions, have a central meeting place where people can network. Right. So for example, yesterday, if you didn't catch unicorn finders yesterday, check it out.

We interviewed Zach Wentz. He's a former Netflix engineer, CrossFit.com engineer. And now he has his own endeavor that's building a coffee app. Check that out. He has a Discord channel. I am in the Discord channel and it's a bunch of nerds talking about coffee. It's that simple folks. It is that simple. So that's all I got today. I appreciate y'all a ton. I'll have a wonderful, wonderful Friday, wonderful weekend. And I hope you all build community, build community do it today. Do it today. Don't wait. Don't wait. Don't community today. Happy Friday. You all join my texting community if you haven't. Tailordeson.com. You know the drill, all that stuff.

So again, thank you. This would not be possible if it wasn't for you in the community. So if you are struggling to build community or you know somebody who's struggling to build community, share this episode that they can see it. It takes effort. You will have to do it, but it will pay off in the long run. So thank y'all so much for hanging out with me this morning on this beautiful Friday. Y'all have a good one. I'll see you next week. Peace. Hey, you did it. You listened to an entire episode and I am very grateful because you know why? There's a lot of podcasts out there.
