So again, this is a Tallah guidance counselor, a few point hours and extension of my podcast.
So you can check that out. Basically... Now more than that, I feel like people need a guidance counselor. We're at a guidance counselor middle school, we have a guidance counselor at high school with them. You know, we're adults now at the middle when you're having a lady to talk to other than the therapist. So that's... Again, while I'm doing this... And so I'm doing these many LinkedIn series every morning that I can. This week's new little spotty. So I have two reviews this week. But again, hopefully it's doing great. So we're going to start... Sorry, anyways, we are getting started on this specific topic, which I'm pretty passionate about.
LinkedIn. And while LinkedIn is so important. And so I wanted to dive in and kind of just chit-chat while LinkedIn is so important. So for the longest time, and by the way, I'll take questions. Comment on the video. I'll see them. But so yeah, I want to talk about while LinkedIn is so powerful. And so for the longest time, LinkedIn has kind of been this tool that, you know, let's face it, right? You have it. You're like, great, what do I do with it? I'll throw a picture up there and then not touch it for obviously for a very long time. And then it's kind of gone through a resurgence.
And because of my industry, I spend a lot of time on LinkedIn. And really over the last two or three years, I really started to observe LinkedIn. And really start seeing some trends. And it, I'll tell you what, it is the one platform that could single handily jumpstart your career. And when I say that, let's kind of dive into that, what that means. And so the first thing is that I think if you are into blogging or writing in any sense of the word, whether you have your own website, whether you blog on whether you journal, I think you should journal and blog on LinkedIn.
And the reason why LinkedIn is so powerful is because you have zero following, zero. Like if you haven't touched your LinkedIn for five years and you go on your LinkedIn and you blog about a success you had. And again, this kind of goes with the whole topic of putting yourself out there that talked about last week. I had one developer that I know in Nashville and he was like, hey, I'm going to put this post up. Tell me what you think. Can you set me to post? And I looked at it. And he put it up there. And he had over a hundred likes. And I'm sure I can't see the views, which is what I look at more.
But I'm sure it's over two or three thousand views. And he has not posted to LinkedIn in a very long time in one post. And the reason for that is because the organic reach on LinkedIn again, I'm not a marketing expert. And so I'm just dumbing this down for the people who are watching. The reason why LinkedIn so powerful is because if I like your post, all of my five thousand followers see it. And so you're probably watching this video right now. Like Taylor, okay, that's great. That's great. LinkedIn is great at developing a following. Why should I develop a following? And business right now as a whole, you need to develop some sort of brand equity of following.
Right. Like if you're like in the restaurant industry, right. People want to go to your restaurant because of you. Now the food's got to be good too, right. But it's like man, right. Like Chef Ramsay or, you know, I don't know all of all of, you know, all these chefs out there. I'm going blank. It's way too early anymore coffee. But all these chefs out there that Netflix does are Chef's table, right. Sean Brock here in Nashville, right. You go to his restaurants because you know the food's good and you know who he is. Right. Same thing with doctors, right. So we have a three month old newborn now.
She is fantastic growing like crazy. And one of the reasons why we chose this specific doctor is because we started following her in Instagram. So some of our friends were putting out some of her, some of her posts. And we started to consume them. And we were like, holy cow, we really like this person shot at Hope Well. By the way, great, great, great pediatrician, right, doctor's office. So in Nashville. But like we started to consume this information of this doctor posting on TikTok. Simple things like at home remedies to get rid of kidney stoves. Right. You probably like, well, I didn't think about doing TikTok for that.
And so it's that with LinkedIn though, right. Now LinkedIn, I would say, right. If you're in the music industry where I come from, like I wouldn't. I mean, you could post you singing and stuff. But I think there's a lot within the business aspect of being in the music industry that I know I learned that you could be post on LinkedIn. And so what happens is you start posting on LinkedIn every day, right. And it's so hard. I've talked to so many sales people, so many individuals who are like, yeah, I'm going to post on LinkedIn every day, every day, three days later, they've already fallen off.
Right. And so it's very difficult to kind of work into your system and to work into your team day and day out. But you could be a stay at home mom wanting to get into sales. And you could live post about yourself and some things you're doing in the community. And people will start seeing that I have had my former guitar player that moved, that was in my band in Columbia, South Carolina. He's a data scientist now. And he started to post thoughtful content on LinkedIn, documenting his day. What does it look like? He's a data scientist now, which makes sense. He was building his own hamster stuff shot, Danny Morris.
Maybe you're watching this. But you know, he started to post thoughtful content on LinkedIn. What does my day look like? What are some challenges? What are some successes? How do I solve this problem? Being open and vulnerable on LinkedIn. And he messes me the other day and he's like, man, like, I'm starting to get people like reaching out and wanting to do interviews. Because they're seeing me post. I think right now, if you're not spending the majority of your time on LinkedIn, you're doing it wrong. I think hashtags are really important on LinkedIn. Right. Here's another aspect of it. I think for me, because of the organic reach, if you do a lot of hashtags or so, I get criticized a lot with all my hashtags.
But how else are going to people going to find you? I think the art of hashtags, again, I'm not a marketer. Like, I don't know really how to do a lot. But the hashtags, like I would reverse engineer the people that you are trying to find. Right. And so, you know, if you're trying to do all the people in Nashville in your restaurant industry, right? You want to hashtag restaurants in hashtag Nashville in hashtag Friday night because you got to think about it. Hashtags like Google searches. Right. So what type of Google searches do you want to get popped up in or found in and those are the type of hashtags that you want to use.
Cathy, a great question here. What would a good start on posting volume be? Because I start twice per week and build up from there. Like, why can't you do every day? Like, why can't you? Sure. Twice a week's great. Better than zero week. But the thing is, it doesn't need to be this like crazy thought provoking stuff. I put out a post on Friday on LinkedIn Friday night on LinkedIn. I use just a few hashtags. They got over a thousand views. And it's because of my brother, my brother now we're texting. And he goes, please don't look at this guy's LinkedIn because he knows what we'll be talking about him.
And I just posted the screenshot and people loved it. Like, it wasn't this like, it's just been fun. And so I really think right now, you know, it's LinkedIn is kind of that really cool in between of like Facebook and Instagram. With business and you can still kind of mix in everything. So yeah, the cat here just start. Sure. Twice a week if you can get in the rhythm of that absolutely do twice a week. But just challenge yourself once a day. We're all on our phones all the time. We're on Instagram all the time. We're on Facebook all the time. If you're on Twitter, I'm on Twitter all the time.
Right. It doesn't take much to post, but it thing is you have to continue to post. And this is where it kind of ties into putting yourself out there. I'm again, Katya, thank you again for us in that question. But like, you really have to start putting yourself out there and documenting. But I think yes. And Katya is what I'm about to say agree. I think it just takes being brave. Yes. That's it. That's all it takes is people to be fearless. I think people are so scared. And this is what I want to talk about too is, you know, Instagram. You get a, you put out a post and it gets like 10 likes and you're like, crap, let me take that down.
Some people do, some people don't. Right. And I've talked to a lot of people. It's like the mental health side of things of social media that people don't talk about. Like that was so crazy about LinkedIn because you could have five likes but over a thousand views. Right. And because it really tracks and what's cool about LinkedIn too, they just rolled out the new release on LinkedIn is the data capture. Right. And kind of nerdy here. But the data capture on LinkedIn is, is, is kind of built into the post now. So you can really start seeing who's looking at your content. Like, where is it coming?
Like where is that traffic coming from? And then maybe you can write content for those cities. Right. Like for me, like, Raleigh's my number two. Like, National and Raw are the number two, one and two cities. So I could probably be posting more content for Raleigh specific as well. And so that's the power of LinkedIn. I listen, I'm telling you this in a nutshell. Like if there's anything else, if you're still watching 10 minutes through, thank you again. I appreciate it. If I'm a rambling, bumbling mess this morning. But the big thing is, if you spend as much time on LinkedIn as you do on Facebook and Instagram, it will change your career.
And again, do not over engineer the LinkedIn post. It is just specifically talking about what you've done in business. Right. If you're in sales, talk about some successes. Right. Talk about some customer testimonials. One of our sales girls posted the other day about how we stepped up a huge initiative. Right. It wasn't that hard to post. You should just post it. And it spread like wildfire. It had hundreds and hundreds of likes. And so I think right now, their LinkedIn too is getting a little spammy. Right. There is a lot of self help. How to make $10,000 in a day. Right. Well, if it was that easy, you wouldn't be selling it because everybody could do it.
But so I think what really cuts through the noise right now, LinkedIn is authenticity. And true. I guess staying true to yourself and posting things that you have specifically done. You know, let's talk about the restaurant industry. The restaurant industry. There's a lot of things from a budgeting. P&L perspective, right. That ties in the business. I think I had this idea for any restaurant owners that may watch this down the road. Like everyone's second home now. Right. All these businessmen and women who go out to lunch every day are now stuck at home. And they have to like somehow like make lunch for themselves. Like if I were in the restaurant industry, I'd be posting every single day a five minute video of how to make something very simple with household items.
And that will spread like wildfire. Because I would follow you because I'm just eating turkey sandwiches until I died at this point. So I think that's a great thing. But again, really engineering using it as a marketing funnel, which that's something I'm going to get into this. We're talking about really the differences of marketing and the job search. How it's really intertwined now because we're all at home and we're all pushing content from a digital platform perspective. So again, LinkedIn's where it's at. I don't want to belabor the point anymore or labor the point anymore. I don't know the saying. I think it's something like that again, more coffee.
So again, post on LinkedIn. Be thoughtful. Be authentic. Be yourself. And stay consistent. Nothing will probably happen for a few months. Just go ahead and let you know there. Like maybe six months, maybe even nine months. Nothing will happen. But all of a sudden one day you'll have one post that pops. Right. When I say pop like a few hundred likes, twelve thousand views. And then people will start following you. And it just kind of develops a following. And again, I know a lot of other people in my network have done the same thing. Kind of start building a brand building a following. Again, you're probably again, Washington.
So I tell you why do I need to build a brand. You don't have to. You don't. You don't have to build a brand. If you're watching this, you're probably like, I see so many people you need to build a brand. You need to build a brand. You need to post. You don't have to. I know a ton of successful business people. I know people in my network who don't post a lot and who do just fine from business perspective. But if you want to separate yourself within your field to any sort of extent, I would recommend doing this over LinkedIn. So again, thank you all for tuning in to the audience.
