On finding your why and and I'm copying Simon's neck here so like I'm not going to take credit for finding your why that is a Simon's neck thing so check he has a book. I actually believe it or not believe it or not.

Start with why I have not read it yet I'm a terrible reader I'll eventually get to this. So this is this is kind of what this talk this morning is off of. Yes, I was 13 that are reporting for duty if you don't follow me on Twitter. I'm not sure what that means the other day I reposted a meme it was like like a few bricks holding up a huge building it says like the 13 followers that like your stuff so thank you for that I appreciate that. So we're talking about finding your why when it comes to the job search. I think pre COVID it was really bad because the market was just so intense and people were hiring all the time that everybody was just like hey like I'm just going to like stick my foot in the lake and like see what happens when the pond or you know foot in the river or whatever the saying is and people didn't have a why right they were just kind of doing whatever.

And the biggest thing I see with job seekers is that they just kind of have has really kind of approach the job search. They are just like hey like like when I catch up with camps first thing always ask them like hey what what's causing you know you to look around. I don't know just one new job. All right well anything else right and then it's so I really dig into that because what drives you in your job search is essentially going to fulfill you down the road right so I've talked to a lot of people that hey listen there's no shame if it's money.

Like I'm going to go and say that now if you are chasing money and if your why is money that is okay. Chase the money go wherever you want to go and just chase it right you know I was I was I was working with somebody very close to me. And he and I were having a ton of conversations back and forth ton of conversations and this individuals like. well what I you know I'm in a good job in a good job in a good job and I've been in a good job. And this individual kept bringing up salary. Did I have anything else. And I said hey so what's your why why are you looking for a job.

And this individual goes. I'm chasing the money. And I said that's great I said I said I said you go get that bread you go chase that money. And that's okay but the thing is that individual knew what they were chasing. I I'm tired of people starting their job search and not having a list of the reasons why they're looking right again. Pre-COVID is commute right I listen I I drove really far right commute was a thing right commute money work life balance culture probably little harder to judge remote. But culture find your why right please find your why when it comes to the job search because it will help you and it will allow you to really see what's important and you need to rank it.

Right I'm all about writing things down I have tried notion you know we we I did an episode about this at the end of the year about time management and what you use a new workflows and stuff. And paper pen paper for me right find your why write it down top three let's just let's just go and write it down top five money title work life balance. Whatever write it down and essentially let that be the guide to what helps you find a job because I have so many people. I have so many people that land their job. And then they go oh man well I'm not really happy right they hit me up three months later like Taylor I'm just I'm just not really happy today.

Or right now I'm like why I took the job and I just I think I took it too fast right they didn't ask the questions they didn't come prepared so come prepared also another thing please know what your benefits your salary please know your entire comp when you're coming into the job search right so many people so many people. Start the job search and they don't know their salaries and when I say they don't know their salaries they don't know their 401k they don't know their benefit costs they don't know like what their entire package looks like. Right if I called you out on this call right I wish it was interactive or like a zoom call but stream yard.

What your total compass now if you don't have a job and you just want to job that's fine. But the biggest thing that you need to be mindful of is benefit costs because people get a job off and they're like oh crap. My benefits are really good I don't want this job anymore right and so again you need to be mindful of that a few people are in the chat so let's give a shot real quick Kyle good morning it's good to see you dude.

I like to ask to see if the benefits I like to ask to see the benefits. Me to move forward might not even pay the bills yeah I mean listen I try to kind of decide for what you said really I like I would ask for the benefits on the front end right because you don't want to like get into the offer stage in the benefits are terrible so. So you're why of why you are looking for a job or why you want to move does your manager suck let me ask you this if your manager's terrible and add that fixes it do you still want to leave. And then you start kind of comparing apples to apples right well if I manager.

So I'm going to make a good micromanager me will that make a better place and if that sticks is that make you jump right that's where you have to really start digging in healing back done getting peel back the layers if you will.
