He guides Council 2.0. Not quite as long. I'm going to ensure this morning. Just because quite frankly I'm just going to give a rundown about myself put a lot into followers over the last few days Specifically because I posted a meme about the weekend and it kind of went viral a little bit at least for me It went viral Which is the power of LinkedIn. We have summer letting 10 out and Seattle doing 10 of us and calm. We got Brandon R. Bay who I who was kind of short with on the Comet Brandon R. Bay right here Brandon R. Bay does all of my social media content strategy The reason why he said in my own clubhouse because we talked about Clubhouse strategy now I'm doing the one thing that Brandon said to do so and I'm not doing it so sorry about that Brandon will we'll get it next time So let's go ahead and dive in so a lot of people will get asked about me So I want to give you a background so I'm gonna go and start talking if you have any comments or questions Related to me directly.

I love to answer them, but basically I grew up in South Carolina I went to the University of South Carolina big gamecock football fan I think what's happening from Their coaching search perspective is pretty cool when it comes to building culture within your organization and so you know basically If you want to talk college football especially SEC college football, please let me know I love to do that So I moved up to national to do music like everyone else. So I'm a drummer was a drummer My drum set is not set up my house because our newborn has a the drum room, but So I I grew up playing drums from fifth grade on did jazz big fan of jazz Not that you care, but this and jazz stuff and then moved up here to do music So I moved up with my buddy Jake Etheridge Jake Etheridge for those of you who watched the show Nashville Jake was on the final season as one of the main characters And so He and I moved up here together to get music.

I was losing money serving the tables Six nights a week not playing drums. I need I needed a day job and So I found Vaco through a friend of a friend and I guess you can say the rest of history I did one more tour when I was at Vaco my boss at the time Let me offer two weeks, which is awesome and we went to New York City all the way back down and Basically we broke down on the side of the road. We played a show in New York City I'll play at the bitter end those of you who know venues in New York City It's pretty decent venues to play the bitter end And we and my lead singer was all about driving at night.

Andrew. Thank you. Thank you for caring about jazz I appreciate it. So we drove through the knife New York City in an exterior for dudes no shower and We woke up kind of Draggy on a Sunday morning in South Carolina in August And there's what and then our car wouldn't start so if there's one place you did not want to break down in in the middle of August South Carolina and so after that we got towed by some random person to an advanced auto will end the South nothing opens up before doing so I was sleep deprived no shower no breakfast Human hot sitting outside of advanced auto and I said I am done with this That was my that was the end of my music career and so I kind of dove into vaco even more I started recruiting fortune 100 clients across the country.

So your typical recruiter High volume I would co-call you. I have no idea what I was talking about And I'd probably try to sell you on a enterprise client that you've already been submitted to 10,000 times So I did that for two years. I was able to rise to the top of my division and you know was able to do very well and honestly a very difficult environment just because of Just because of the way it was structured and I kind of took the reins on tech I didn't know what job it was my first project was staff and job and developers for a telecom client in broom field, Colorado level three communications and So I did that and know what job it was and I just started calling developers and asking questions And I was like oh man like you guys build cool stuff like this is kind of fun and so After learning a lot I realized that I just like tech and so after more people hung up on me Because then I started recruiting just tech in the Bay area I was calling into Yahoo before the date of reach.

I was causing I was calling into Sony Pacific Gas and Electric Capital one You know all these fortune 100 clients in tech and all these developers hated me because they've been caught They've been getting called by everybody else. So I knew I needed to make a change So I moved to Raleigh North Carolina My old boss was on I don't know if you still honest, but Sid Mitchner Sid Mitchner was my boss in Raleigh North Carolina I was in Raleigh for 11 months and 29 days I learned a lot under Sid and Taylor Roberts. I had Taylor Roberts on this live show early this year And then I had chance to come back to Nashville To only recruit software devs in Raleigh.

I recruited all the things in tech and I really started to Really dig into software and devs and then it became really active in the dot it user group and while I was in Raleigh I had the first chance to speak up my first conference the guys in the dot net user group trineug Shout out trineug in Raleigh North Carolina those guys David Green Rob Zelt Tom Geiger All those guys I basically They were like hey you should talk at our co-cam and I said Hope it's not anything about that because I can't do that and they said no, we just want to talk about recruiting So my first talk went three hours.

I had the hour and a half session before lunch I said I said okay, everybody you can go to lunch nobody left And so I ended up going three hours about talking about recruiters and so that's what kind of spurned on the whole speaking thing And so after Raleigh I then moved to Nashville a few more people. Yes Joel. I had so many calls from Raleigh for I teach on yeah, Raleigh North Carolina growing Move back to Raleigh. Yes. I miss my team in Raleigh They are near and dear friends to my wife and I And so I moved back to Nashville and I've been recruiting software ever since for last six years I only recruit software At the time when I moved back to Nashville my team was very small.

We are a team of seven total Now our team of 20. I need to check our Slack group and see how many people we have 20 people in our Slack group I think we're supposed to have a little bit more net But so 20 people so we've almost tripled in size since Coming back I now lead a recruiting team I went from being a team lead of like two to three junior developers and now I manage team of nine recruiters Which has been pretty cool. It's a bit been a good transition. I'm helped scale that team We haven't lost anybody we've lost two people one performance one move back But since I've been leading for the last four or five years sick brag.

I know We haven't lost anybody which has been really really cool And so I've been recruiting so and also to give you a scale of how we've grown Baker technology Nashville since I've been back when I came back in 2014 our Total like targeted goal was 1.7 million in revenue now we've done over six million in revenue Maybe not revenue. I think it's GM which sales So we've six acts essentially since I've been back so I've been part of that growth, which is really cool Speak at user groups. I've done the whole user group thing. I've always been really cool for me I've had the opportunity to speak at like code camps in Toronto Denver and you know, I'm getting pain to kind of speaking some other cities across the country So coven's been really good to me from just sharing my information And what really prompted me to push up putting out contest start doing this and I'll wrap it up here because again I hate talking about myself believe it or not and I'm seeing the viewers kind of dwindling down But basically the reason for the reason I want to give back and the reason for my motivation to get back to you all Especially over internet over internet over over the internet It's so my dad called me so my dad is in the restaurant industry.

He called me When he left his job my dad managed the outback steak house shut up out back steak house He managed the outback steak. That's in my hometown for 20 years and he left one day my dad just he just quit It was literally killing him back surgery etc And he called me and he goes hey Taylor. What do I do and I said I said what do you mean? What do you mean? What do you do and he goes how do I find a job? And that's so good goosebumps because I think as recruiters we can get so numb We we We can get we can be so numb to the fact That people become numbers That we just kind of I mean I'm guilty of it right we move so fast That we just kind of start de-emphasizing the importance of what we do as a recruiting as a recruiter Well my dad called me a few years back And he said I need help I said I need to start helping people more I need to start giving back more both to tech people and to non-tech people And so that is what motivates me just to let you all know who are watching My dad and him calling me after quitting his job for 20 years is the reason why I That I want to help you the reason why I want to put out information on the internet at scale I think another thing that's been interesting for me because of covid is because of the way recruiters job is is very like One to one right I meet one person Twice three times a day.

I go to lunch with one person and that's my day Pre-covid when covid hit I was like I need to put out content I need to put out information to help people at scale whether whether it'll help me or not I need to help people and I need to do it more often and so that is why I do the live That is why I do the email newsletter because the information that I know I know the job search can be scary I know the job search can be scary and so my goal is to put out content to put out information at scale for everybody to find it and to use it and to implement it because maybe I'm reaching one guy In Milwaukee who's a restaurant owner who's lost his job after 20 years.

That's the person. I'm going after right the chef in You know, Albuquerque, New Mexico who she ran a restaurant for 20 years and quit because of the pandemic closed up her store. That is what my goal is Is is is to share with people non tech and tech alike for our in career transition who needs help going from job to Because at the end of the day this whole job search process is terrifying Right. I've dealt with my mom bouncing around job to job right or not job to job but like trying to find motivational what to do right What to do and and really how to like Create a LinkedIn right.

I'm on to know where Haley had to use LinkedIn right. That's a motivator right my brother has certain has switched jobs recently right and seeing him and talking to him and seeing Just how he thought about the job process is like man. This is how people think right because I do what they certain type of Individuals right when you deal with your family you kind of talk a little bit more kind of uncover some more stuff And so that's helped me give that right finding your why the other day like that was a yesterday's Live show finding your why that was because of my brother my brother and I had that conversation.

What is your why? What are you chasing? and so a lot of what I share to you is specifically Stories real-time stories right my live my guidance counter to point out This is to share real stories that I deal with on a day-to-day basis not only with my family But also with candidates so I can share and allow it to be discoverable by others so again That's it. Thank you so much. That's a little bit about me at a super high level I love what I do if again, I'm always please connect to me. Please share my information.
