So me and the guys on my podcast unicorn finders Go check it out the unicorn finders.com We are we had a great virtual hangout session on in regards to LinkedIn and I wanted to go ahead and kind of break it down kind of have a little bit more conversation Because I think there's so much good information right now and we talked about networking and I talked about networking live with unicorn finders and and it just I don't think you can never talk about networking enough and so I want to can I get and set some tactical things about LinkedIn right now and and maybe and maybe I can help you Just want the again the whole point of guidance counselor 2.0 is Just a live chat right?

I mean it's not fireside Because this is a bedroom and I can't have a fire in here Because it will burn down so but fireside chat. I just want to hang out with you So if you have any questions on how to network right now be name a pandemic or network in general post pandemic, please Comment in the chat. I will answer it. But let's go ahead and get started. So LinkedIn right now a few tips and tricks. So I think again I've talked about it if you are not spending the majority of your time The majority of your day Leveraging LinkedIn liking and commenting people's statuses within your field.

I think you're you're falling behind every single day You know if you don't have to be in tech you can be in HR We an accounting. It doesn't matter right and even on the creative side of things I think if you're a creative watching this which I don't have a lot of creative people probably tuning in but if you are watching this I absolutely think That there is a huge gap to fill and a huge opportunity for any sort of creatives on LinkedIn I think you know I was talking to a chef buddy of mine That you have a bunch of business people Who have lunch every single day and who are stuck at home?

It doesn't know how to cook right and so if if so if I was on LinkedIn if I was a chef I would be posting videos of how to cook Simple things for lunch with three or four ingredients. I will tell you I will tune to that because I cannot cook And so that would be awesome for me to watch So another thing with LinkedIn too is that I think Like and in commenting on people's statuses is the new networking Right and I know I've talked about this. I know I've talked about this but liking and commenting on people's statuses Is the new networking is the new way to keep in touch with people You know, I've been I've been tweeting a few things lately and I had someone message me I had someone's meth literally messaged me right before I went live And he was saying listen like I get this a ton He was like people DM me They don't they just ask for something for me and then they don't even keep in touch anymore Right and I messaged that I messaged that guy back.

I said listen I get it I think people take take take and not want to give back And I think a way to stay on somebody's radar for for years Is liking and commenting on their post because you do that for a long time And then you messaged them with a favor. They're gonna be more open to obviously hearing you out And so but again, what's crazy and it's such like you know people are so used to like hey Like I'm gonna go pay for a membership to a networking You know seminar. I'm gonna go pay for a Business membership in my local city so I can get referrals like that's not that's not it anymore That's literally not it anymore like for me personally like liking and commenting On people's post like so I'm gonna use this for example right like I'm gonna call it cathea right?

Cathea continues yes cathea coffee absolutely Cathea always comments always post right if cathea reaches out to me and like she hasn't asked me for any sort of favors If she reaches out to me, I will help her Why because she continually engages? She's always on top of mind for me. That's how you do it That's exactly how you do it. So cathea that was completely unplanned, but good job there So again staying top of mind liking commenting on people within your field that you enjoy Really really goes a long way. I think another LinkedIn tactic Is you need to post once a day Once a day and you need to keep doing it right?

I have a lot of people that are like you know what Taylor doesn't work It just doesn't work. I posted once a day. I said, how long do you post for it? They go all week Listen for me it is It is literally it's the consistency thing that kills everybody it kills everybody and honestly did this could be another LinkedIn live session, and I think it will be Because I've really started to notice my behaviors and Patterns on how I do business over the last few weeks a lot of the way a lot of the ways we do business and who we are as individuals is routine Right.

I'm very routine driven. You can ask my wife like routine like crazy Right, and so that's very important to me and so but the thing is though is that Uh, Rochelle fixed turn it into it. It's good to see a man. Thanks. Turn it in but so the thing is though is that People's behaviors you need to change your behavior a lot of times when it comes to networking when it comes to business Right for recruiting for my industry. I've done the same thing for seven years And I'm not gonna get into the nuts and bolts of it because I'm gonna bore all of y'all and for the few people who are watching it Log off, but I've done the same thing year after year and I got tired of it Right, and I needed to do a change and so I've changed I would say everything with a content creation giving back But the thing is though, it still takes a while to get used to right there are patterns or behaviors I'm not used to That I need to get back in the habit of for example at night last night I caught myself just scrolling aimlessly on Instagram and Twitter last night and I was like you know what I could go and reply to all my LinkedIn dms Right, and that's what I did, but again, it's just habit changing and I think I'm gonna dive in I think that maybe my next LinkedIn live again.

I won't go loud tomorrow go live Monday So that's probably what I'm talking about is changing behaviors So you need to post one today. Honestly, I'd probably post more two or three times a day right I think You know a lot of other social media sites, which is a lot of like LinkedIn so much is that You know, there's this stigma that you only should post one so you should post a lot or You know come across as like too much like I think LinkedIn is A place where you can post as much as you want because the way that algorithm works is I see post from people a Week later that I didn't even see when it happened, right, and so it's kind of this crazy This crazy system To where you can keep posting keep posting and no one's gonna get tired of it Now you're probably asking to us.

I'm great. What do I post again? I talked about this before but you need to Blog about you right? I think LinkedIn, you know everybody wants to blog All right, blogging was bigger in the early 2000s. I want to have a blog Like LinkedIn is now your blog is your professional blog and so leverage that use that Stay consistent with that. I think another thing too I've spoken to National Software School handful of times over the last few months and I've had a bunch of students go hey listen. I feel salesy right. I feel fake posting Every single day right? That's not just who that's not who I am first off.

That's great empathy Right. I think high EQ you need to know yourself before you kind of go head into posting on social media What's crazy is you can leverage LinkedIn and you only have to post it all you can friend request people In your field within the search feature Like and comment on their posts whenever they post and DM people you don't even have to post it all Right, and so that's incredibly important is that people you know people watching me like oh my gosh Like I've had I've literally had people go hey, I don't want to do what you do or I can't even get started Because you do so much.

It's like listen like that's that's my that's my thing. You don't have to post If if you're timid like if you don't feel comfortable writing by the way, I'm a terrible writer Like I just forget words sometimes it senses But it's do it But if you don't feel comfortable doing that again, you can just comment and like and repost and share that that's what we're posting is and DMing people that is networking that is a way to use LinkedIn Any questions for the few people who are still watching please post please comment on On how to use this we can definitely answer those questions But yeah, I mean, I listen.

I think networking right now over Instagram right we talked about Instagram I think networking right now. I think you need to go and follow accounts and people within your field Right, I mean, we all follow our friends on Instagram, which is great But I think maybe using Instagram more strategically, right? I've really kind of gotten in this thing like I've struggled with Instagram I've struggled with Twitter for so long In Facebook to where I'm like I hate posting about myself In regards to like where I go on vacation You know, what am I doing? It just it feels weird, right? And I've struggled with it.

I know I've done it But I haven't really necessarily liked doing it And so I just finally was like you know, I want to leverage this for my business And I think more people need to do that. I think if you're a junior in your career You leverage it to show what you can do and just show your talents, right? I think right now. I think Macro kind of pulling down the five-year plan like I think this is the way it's gonna be I think You know, I know there's a vaccine kind of being talked about and You know, I'm a big college football fan.

They're talking about college football being back in like 2021 like full on In the summer and it's like I get that I think we'll return back to some normalcy But if you can master the art of post in social media a.k.a. be internet right now I think that's gonna go a I think I think that's gonna help you tremendously And I think you need to be mindful of that moving forward because I think you have everybody's attention right now Right my viewership's been off the charts Because people are at home right? I've never done this live thing right? I would I would never Never have done this live thing and so again, I have your attention for the few people watching I think you need to be mindful that as well With your stuff I and I get this question a lot will people be interested in my journey will people be interested in my story I will tell you this your story is unique if you are watching this if you're listening to this to later on my podcast Your story is unique.

You will have a lot to share and I think people are going to be fascinated by your journey because That's why documentaries are big Why do you think everybody watches documentaries on Netflix? Right? Why do you think we rubber neck on the side of the road when there's a wreck right? Humans as a whole are naturally Nosey we are naturally we want to be in everybody's business and we want to see what everybody's doing Right and so that's what I'm saying I think if you consistently post continually tell people about who you are in your journey No one's gonna get tired of it You're gonna develop people who resonate with you.

I don't resonate with everybody There are a lot of people who I've like pissed off in my career Right if you're watching I do a politics Right, but I think the thing is you got to be authentically you And I think that people who resonate with that will follow you So all that being said, that's my rate for today on networking on LinkedIn And just kind of as a macro as a whole kind of networking right now with a dipebic So again, if you need me I put the website over here over here over here Thank god.com Backslash Taylor check it out. I got resume templates videos on how to's I got some Ten questions on how to stump for a recruiter all that stuff so check that out check the website out and We'll not go live tomorrow, but I'll see all of y'all on Monday.

I'll take it easy
